How Much Does It Cost to Travel to Thailand? If you’re wondering how much it costs to travel to Thailand, you’ve come to the right place! In this article, we will discuss how much you’ll need to budget for your travel and accommodations to the region. Plus, you’ll want to have some extra saved for your day-to-day expenses and some for those impulsive, random purchases. Let’s dive in and figure out how much you’ll spend, considering you don’t want to spend too much.

Travel Costs in Thailand

First, the good news: Thailand is an economical travel destination. You’re not going to be shelling out hundreds of dollars for food, as you can find very economical meals compared to a trip to, let’s say, Paris, and navigating the day-to-day is, by and large, less expensive than most other travel destinations. Let’s break things down here, shall we?

Travel Costs in Thailand-flights

The first thing you’ll have to plan for is your flight. If you’re flying out of Canada or the United States, a round-trip ticket will cost you around $1,000-$1,500, depending on the time you go. Thailand generally attracts more tourists during the hot season (check out my article here to read more on when the best time to go to Thailand is). Still, consider traveling during the wet season to save on your flight. If you’re closer, say, India, then you’re in luck. The flight can be as cheap as £100. But wherever you are, don’t forget to pack all your essentials, and ensure you have an appropriate travel wallet for your credit cards and ID.

How Much Does It Cost to Travel to Thailand - accomodations

The cost of accommodations depends on where you want to stay. There are budget-friendly hotels you can choose for only $10 per night, but if you’re looking to stay somewhere fancier, then prepare to pay more. Luxury hotels can be just as expensive as the United States, with prices exceeding $200 per night. Research which hotel, or even an Airbnb, is suitable for you. Also, to get the best rates and availability, book the hotel of your choice in advance and consider flexible travel times if possible.

thailand tuk tuk

Thailand has a very efficient and relatively inexpensive public transportation system. You can get a train or subway ticket from about $0.30 to a dollar, depending on your destination. In general, though, Tuk-tuks and taxis are more expensive than regular public transport.

And an important thing to keep in mind is that you might encounter a situation where tuk-tuks tell you that a particular site is close or the hotel you booked is too expensive, and they know a better one. This is a scam. Insistent the driver take you to your destination or get out and find another driver. Please find out more in my article about how to stay safe when traveling in Thailand.

Good Food and Drinks for Low Prices

Thailand street food

You can find some really decent food in Thailand without spending a lot of money. If you want to try something different and cheap, check out the street food. There, you’ll find stalls offering meals for as low as a dollar. But if you’d rather sit down and have something else, mid-range restaurants provide meals for anywhere from $10-20 per person.

Beer is relatively cheap. You can grab a cold one for just about $2. Cocktails can be more expensive, ranging from $3 to $15.

And remember, you’ll need to buy your water. Tap water isn’t safe to drink, so buying bottled water is a must. It doesn’t cost much, though, only about 25 cents at a local grocery store. Remember, a great water bottle to take with you.

At the end of the day, if you’re planning a 3-day trip, figure about $75-100, or about $30 a day for food and drink.

Sightseeing and Other Activities

Thailand-Sightseeing and Other Activities

Thailand offers a lot of activities that are either low-cost or free. Some free activities you can check out are visiting the beautiful beaches and exploring the temples or markets.

There are also low-cost activities you can try out with the family. Attractions include national parks and historical sites. Expect to pay around $5-$20 per person, depending on where you are going and what time you are going. For instance, the Christmas season is less expensive.

Other activities include hiking, diving, or trekking out in the jungle. These activities can cost you anywhere between $15-100 per person. If you’re going in a group, it might cost less. Do some research and see what options there are to plan and budget.

Random Spending

Keep some room in your budget for things you want to buy. There are a lot of markets and shopping attractions in the region. The region is known for its relaxing massages, so if you want to spend some money on a Thai massage, then plan for it. They don’t cost a great deal, about $10.

Final Thoughts – How Much Does It Cost to Travel to Thailand

Thailand is an excellent choice if you’re looking to travel somewhere budget-friendly. As for how much you’ll spend, that depends on two factors: how long you’ll stay and when you’ll visit, because the price changes accordingly. If you’re looking to stay for about 3 days and 2 nights, then plan around $1,000-$1,500.

But this is just an estimate. The figure changes based on your travel preferences, exchange rates at the time of travel, and additional expenses you may incur. Remember to plan and budget wisely, allowing for flexibility in case of unexpected expenses. You may want to buy something that you see to take back home. Keep an eye out for travel deals, and choose budget-friendly options so you save while you’re there! 🙂
